About This Painting

Acrylic on canvas

Handel Protheroe was my first tutor at Lydney School of Art in 1966. He was an absolutely first class draughtsman and founded the West Glos Art Society. I am now lucky to have the pleasure of his painting of Coleford Town Hall, all due to the generosity of Irene, Sarah and Kate. Irene had bought the painting when it was on exhibition in the town hall, probably about 1963, and as a young lad I had seen it there as well. My painting gave me the opportunity to include Handel’s name in the title, and pay my respect to him.
